S&G-1 Rotary shaft oil seals

At the end of this module the Learner will be able to:

• Describe the basic principles of oil seals and identify commonly used designs / types
• Replace oil seal correctly ensuring a leak free joint.

S&G-2 Static seals

At the end of this module the Learner will be able to:

• Describe the purpose of a “gasket”
• Identify gasket material types – non-metallic, metallic, “o –rings”, Sealants
• Replace gaskets on typical industrial equipment
• Make a “paper/board” (vellumoid) gasket

S&G-3 Gland packings

At the end of this module the Learner will be able to:

• Replace gland packing in a typical piece of equipment, for example, a centrifugal pump or a gate / globe valve.

S&G-4 Mechanical seals

At the end of this module the Learner will be able to:

• Describe the fundamental principles of mechanical seals
• Identify o-ring, wedge and bellows seals
• Describe important maintenance aspects of mechanical seals.
