BCD-1 An overview of belt & chain drives
At the end of this module Learners will be able
to:
• Identify and describe principle features
of “V” and wedge belts, roller-chains and associated
drive components
• Describe basic maintenance procedures
• Describe mandatory safety procedures for working with rotating
equipment.
BCD-2 Vee / Wedge / Belt Maintenance
At the end of this module Learners will be able
to:
• Demonstrate the procedure for a safe belt
replacement
• Select correct size / type of belts
• Correctly adjust belt tension
• Recognise typical belt manufacture.
BCD-3 Basic Roller chain maintenance
At the end of this module Learners will be able
to:
• Describe isolation and safety procedures
of chain drives
• Remove and clean roller-chains on a typical drive unit
• Inspect sprocket wheels for wear, damage or run-out
• Inspect chains for twist, flexibility, mis-alignment or
stretch
• Use methods for calculating / determining chain stretch
• Select correct replacement chains
• Describe and perform procedures for chain installation and
replacement
• Achieve correct chain tension
• Correct mis-alignment of chain drives
• Describe purpose and function of chain-tensioners, and perform
basic installation / adjusting procedures with fitted-tensioners
• Describe importance of lubrication / perform 3 methods of
chain lubrication
