Gas
Welding: Oxy / Acetylene Processes (OXY) |
|
This very popular series covers the practical aspects
of using oxyacetylene welding/brazing/flame cutting apparatus. It
is strongly suggested that this series be presented in conjunction
with ODE (Oxyacetylene Downstream Equipment) as this enhances the
safety factors now in force with OHSA.
3 Modules
OXY 1 (Equipment):
At the end of this module the learner will be able
to:
• Identify the components that compose a
typical portable oxy/acetylene set
• Identify PPE required when using an oxy/acetylene set
• Prepare oxy/acetylene equipment
• Set up oxy/acetylene for gas welding process
• Light a torch and set a neutral flame
• Shut down the oxy/acetylene torch and equipment, and make
safe.
OXY - 2 (Welding skills):
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Select and attach appropriate welding nozzle
for material thickness
• Produce a welding pool and make a ‘puddle run’
on thin plate
• Introduce appropriate filler rod material to welding pool
• Weld a butt-joint in down-hand position
• Weld a lap joint
• Weld an open-corner joint
OXY - 3 (Flame cutting):
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Set up and prepare a high pressure
flame-cutting torch
• Operate a flame cutting torch in the ‘freehand style’
to cut through steel plate
• Cut straight and bevelled edges using a cutting guide
• Cut angle iron
• Cut steel pipe
