GMAW 1
At the end of this section the Learner will be able to:
• Describe the concept / principles of Gas
Metal Arc Welding processes
• Describe / Identify by name, typical equipment constituting
a GMAW system
• Explain in basic terms how MIG/MAG/FCAW processes operate
• Explain in basic terms the modes of metal transfer (Short
arc, globular, spray and pulsed)
GMAW 2
At the end of this section the Learner will identify by name, and
describe the function/operation of:
• A GMAW power source (Typical)
• A Wire feeder (Typical)
• A welding gun (Typical)
• Gas supply equipment
• Electrode wire(s)
And then perform the following tasks:
• Prepare (and adjust) the wire feeder unit.
• Prepare a welding gun and gun liner.
• Prepare the gas supply to the welding station.
GMAW 3
At the end of this section the Learner will be able to:
• Prepare and use a MIG/MAG power source
to produce “Short-Circuit Transfer Mode”
• welds on steel work-pieces.
• Prepare and use a MIG/MAG power source to produce “Spray
Transfer Mode”
• welds on steel work-pieces.
